What is the NDCF?
The National Digital Car Seat Check Form (NDCF) is a vital tool for child passenger safety technicians (CPSTs) to improve child passenger safety. It standardizes data collection during car seat checks, enabling technicians to report the proper use and misuse of car seats, booster seats, and seat belts effectively. This not only saves time—reducing data transcription and analysis from hundreds of hours to just minutes—but also increases the accuracy and reliability of the information collected. Given that vehicle crashes are a leading cause of unintentional deaths among children, accurate data on car seat usage is crucial for identifying misuse patterns and enhancing safety measures.
NDCF Use in Florida
All Florida CPSTs are required to use the NDCF for every car seat check performed. As of August 2024, only 12.4% of technicians in Florida had entered at least one car seat check using the NDCF, revealing a pressing need for widespread adoption.
